Eat Your Way To Beautiful Hair

Michael Van Clarke

Your low-fat, low-calorie diet may be working wonders for your figure, but did you know it may be having a negative impact

on your hair and scalp health? Just your like your body your hair also needs a balanced

diet to stay healthy.

Leading Hairdresser Michael Van Clarke has expressed concern about the affect that low fat and low calorie diets, coupled

with the additional stresses of the environment are having on the nation’s hair and scalp.

Michael has seen an increase in clients complaining about dandruff as well as more general itchiness of their scalp and believes

that people can eat certain foods to help themselves recover from these symptoms. It doesn’t mean scrapping your low fat diet

completely, just eating sensibly and including some of the following in your diet; Omega 3 (fatty acids), protein and silica –

found in rice, oats, lettuce, parsnips, cauliflower, green leafy vegetables.

Michael Van Clarke comments, “A diet containing vitamins E, B6 and B12, selenium and zinc is best to maintain a healthy scalp

and glossy hair. Flaxseed oil helps to prevent dandruff and alopecia sufferers should try to incorporate protein with every meal to encourage strong hair growth. Refined sugars and fermented products can also aggravate dandruff ”.

Michael also recommends using a good quality shampoo and conditioner – and applying them correctly; many people make the

mistake of fervently rubbing conditioner into their scalp when it should only be applied to hair. Cheaper modern conditioners may

also contain silicone and other plasticizing cosmetic ingredients that aren’t beneficial to the scalp.
